Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy

Chiropractic care can be a gentle and effective way to support you during pregnancy. It can benefit you not only throughout your pregnancy but also during labor and delivery and even promote a faster recovery postpartum.

Dr. Hannah’s Top 6 Reasons to See a Chiropractor While Pregnant:

  1. Can help baby move head down if it is breech
  2. Reduces back pain
  3. Reduces pelvic pain
  4. Can reduce labor time by up to 25%
  5. Can reduce risk of C-section
  6. Promotes a faster recovery postpartum

To prioritize less pain and discomfort throughout pregnancy, better pelvic position for your baby during pregnancy and delivery, and faster healing postpartum, we highly recommend seeing Dr. Hannah regularly, both prenatal and postpartum.

How Often Should You Visit the Chiropractor While Pregnant?

First Trimester: 1 visit

– In this first visit, we’ll evaluate your needs during the first trimester, establish ongoing care, and familiarize you with the chiropractic process while pregnant.

Second Trimester: 1x/month

During your second trimester, your pelvis is beginning to move, your ligaments are starting to relax, and you may experience more pain in your lower back, legs, and pelvic area. Seeing a chiropractor at least once a month can help alleviate these symptoms and prepare your body for day-to-day activities.

Third Trimester: 2x/month

In your last trimester, we begin preparing your body for labor and managing pain and discomfort. At 30 weeks, Dr. Hannah will start introducing a pregnancy-specific chiropractic technique known as the Webster technique (more information below!) to create the optimal environment for your baby to be in the proper position for delivery.

The Last month: Weekly

During the last 4-6 weeks of your pregnancy, your body and your baby are changing at a significantly faster rate, and seeing Dr. Hannah more regularly will allow for a smoother delivery and also a more comfortable pre-delivery and postpartum experience.

As always, we will work with you to adjust this schedule to meet your unique needs based on your symptoms and baby’s position.

How Do You Get Adjusted When Pregnant?

At Dakota Chiropractic, we understand that pregnancy can bring unique challenges, and we are here to support you every step of the way. Our certified Webster Technique Chiropractor, Dr. Hannah, specializes in this gentle yet effective technique, providing a safe and non-invasive option for mothers-to-be.

Webster technique is a series of minor adjustments and soft tissue release (muscles, ligaments, and tendons) that aim to optimize the environment for labor and delivery. At the beginning of every appointment, starting at 30 weeks, Dr. Hannah will incorporate checking these areas and adjusting or releasing accordingly in order to provide the most optimal environment for baby during pregnancy and delivery as well as preparing your body for postpartum.

Remember: Caring for yourself does not stop after your baby is born. Your body shifts and changes throughout the pregnancy, and delivery will shift things even more. In your postpartum stage, your comfort and care is our highest priority. In your last month of pregnancy, we will send you our full resource guide, which includes best recommendations, healing tips, and information regarding returning to chiropractic care.
